Reprogramming My Terminal

Modified on Sun, 1 Sep at 5:59 PM

If you already own a credit card terminal, it may sometimes be compatible with Allied Payments' systems. However, various factors, most of which are beyond Allied Payments' control, affect compatibility. While we will do our best to integrate your existing equipment, we cannot make any promises. Here are the considerations when reprogramming your terminal for Allied Payments:

  1. PIN-Debit Incompatibility: Terminals you bring to Allied Payments cannot facilitate PIN-debit transactions. This is because PIN entry requires an "encryption key" to be physically embedded in the terminal, and these keys are unique to each provider. Therefore, your terminal won't have Allied Payments' encryption key and PIN debit cannot be enabled. However, you can still swipe debit cards and collect signatures, similar to credit card transactions.

  2. Locked Terminals: Some terminals are locked by the previous provider, meaning they can only operate with that specific provider. Unfortunately, we often cannot determine if a terminal is locked until an attempt to reprogram it is made. This can be disappointing, but it's a limitation we face. Allied Payments does not lock the terminals we sell.

  3. Leased or Rented Terminals: If you lease or rent your terminal, it is likely owned by your current provider, preventing you from transferring it to Allied Payments. Many leases are designed to restrict the movement of terminals to other providers.

  4. End-of-Life Terminals: To maintain PCI Compliance, terminals must meet certain security standards, which include an "End of Life" date set by manufacturers. You could be using a terminal that functions today but may not be reprogrammable by Allied Payments due to future security requirements like EMV card acceptance.

  5. Network-Specific Terminals: Although most terminals work on major networks, some are network-specific and might not be compatible with our systems.

We strongly recommend purchasing a terminal directly from Allied Payments for these reasons. Terminals bought from Allied Payments come with a one-year warranty, include PIN debit capabilities, and are delivered fully programmed and ready to use.
